your key to healing

According to the National Center for PTSD, approximately 7-8 out of every 100 people will experience post-traumatic stress disorder at least once in their lifetime.

Trauma and distressing experiences can impact your quality of life and hope for the future. There is a way to understand your experiences from a different perspective and heal from them.

About EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy method that helps people recover from trauma and distressing life events such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and panic disorders among other issues.

It has been extensively researched over the last 30 years and is also recognized by major organizations such as the American Psychological Association, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, World Health Organization, and the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs/Dept. of Defense to name a few.

EMDR SESSIONS

Ambre is a Certified EMDR therapist through EMDRIA and provides EMDR sessions through telehealth for New Jersey residents for a wide range of issues. Ambre will carefully assess your therapeutic needs and work collaboratively with you at your pace from start to finish.

  • How does EMDR work? EMDR utilizes a technique called "Bilateral Stimulation" which consists of "side-to-side" eye movements, sounds, or taps. This is implemented after the client is asked to focus on a specific distressing event. From there, shifts in insight, beliefs, or feelings may take place regarding the experience or event.
  • How long is an EMDR session? EMDR sessions can range anywhere from 50-90 minutes (depending on insurance authorization).
  • How soon can EMDR produce "results"? This depends on the person, history/background of the person, and nature of what is being processed with EMDR among other factors. Results may occur as soon as one to several sessions or longer, however, this is very unique to each individual.
  • I would like to know about EMDR before committing. Ambre offers a 60-minute psychoeducation session and Q&A prior to beginning EMDR sessions. This session serves to inform clients on the history of EMDR, the neurobiology of trauma and stress on the body and behavior, the breakdown of EMDR sessions, and what to expect in a session.
