Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

If you’ve been through something painful or overwhelming, and it still shows up in your thoughts, body, or relationships, you’re not alone. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed therapy that helps your brain “unstick” those memories so they can be processed and stored like other past events—without the emotional charge.

During EMDR, we use gentle, guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to help your brain reprocess stuck memories. You don’t have to go into every detail. Instead, we focus on helping your nervous system finally recognize that safety. Over time, the triggers lose their power, and you can feel more present, grounded, and free.

You don’t have to carry it alone anymore—and healing doesn’t have to be painful. EMDR can help.

💫 EMDR Therapy Might Be Right for You If...

💭 You’re stuck in the past
Certain memories, images, or feelings keep playing on repeat.

😨 You struggle with anxiety, panic, or phobias
Your brain and body react like danger is still happening — even when it’s not.

💔 You’ve experienced loss, abuse, or trauma
And it still hurts, even if it happened long ago.

🧠 You want a science-backed way to rewire your brain
EMDR helps your brain digest what happened — so it no longer runs the show.

🌈 You’re ready to feel lighter and move forward
This is about freedom — not forgetting, but healing.

What you can expect from EMDR

  • Personalized treatment plan and mapping.
Everyone is unique and requires a personalized approach to EMDR. We carefully factor in your specific needs, experiences, background, and personal goals to optimize efficiency. This ensures we can address the core issues contributing to distress leading to more effective resolution and improvement in quality of life.

  • Coping tools with EMDR resourcing.
Before diving into any reprocessing, we provide you tools and techniques to enhance support and facilitation during processing and beyond. These tools are soothing and are helpful for stress management or any kind of nervous system dysregulation.

  • Processing memories and experiences at your pace.
We always work at your pace. Preparation and treatment planning is done collaboratively with you. There is no one specific timeline for healing.

  • Evaluating progress and adjusting your treatment plan.
We are always checking in and monitoring progress. We understand you may have more than one goal in mind in how to utilize EMDR in the therapy room. We can adjust planning based on your progress or needs.

  • Unparalleled support and education.
There is continuous support from us as we navigate EMDR with you. Some clients choose to remain with their primary therapist while working on EMDR with us. This is called adjunctive therapy and is encouraged! In fact, EMDR may enhance your work in therapy. We pride ourselves in educating clients about EMDR, EMDR's process, and nervous system regulation so you are always informed and confident in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

EMDR therapy helps people heal from tough or upsetting experiences that are still bothering them. It’s often used for things like trauma, anxiety, grief, or bad memories that just won’t go away. During EMDR, you talk about what happened while doing simple movements (like following a light or tapping), which helps your brain process the memory in a healthier way. Over time, the memory feels less upsetting, and it’s easier to move forward.

EMDR can be a powerful and healing approach, but it’s not the right fit for everyone right away. If someone is feeling very overwhelmed, struggling with certain medical or mental health conditions, or doesn’t have enough support in place, we might need to start with other tools first to help them feel more stable and safe.

Before beginning EMDR, we’ll do a thoughtful and supportive assessment together to make sure it’s the right time and approach for you. Your comfort and readiness always come first.

EMDR is not meant to be done alone. While there are self-help tools inspired by EMDR, true EMDR therapy should be guided by a trained therapist. Processing difficult memories can bring up strong emotions, and having a supportive, experienced professional with you is important to help you feel safe and grounded.

If you're curious about EMDR, we're here to talk through it and see what support would feel right for you.

EMDR is generally very safe and effective, but like any therapy, it can sometimes bring up strong emotions, vivid memories, or physical sensations—especially in the days following a session. This is a normal part of the healing process, but it can feel intense at times.

That’s why EMDR is done with a trained therapist who helps you stay grounded and supported every step of the way. Before starting, we’ll talk about how to manage any difficult emotions that may come up and make sure you feel ready and resourced.

The cost of EMDR therapy can vary, but it’s often covered by insurance—as long as the therapist or practice is in-network with your plan.

If we’re out-of-network with your insurance, we can still support you by providing a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. We’re always happy to help you understand your benefits and what your specific plan may cover.

Your healing matters, and we’ll work with you to make care as accessible as possible.
